Here's the Magic Bullet that allows you to hear audio on the ScreamStream!
The short answer? Uninstall Quicktime, restart, and install Quicktime Alternative 1.81. Problem solved! Here's the long answer (along with a useless rant): We've been banging our heads against the wall for some months now because of this problem. For some reason, some viewers of the ScreamStream experience a problem with the audio when they try to watch us. Sometime it was there, sometime it wasn't. Even some of the PCs on the ScreamTV computer network experienced the problem. Unfortunately, the nerds we use to figure out these issues could never replicate the problem on their machines. They all thought we were freaking crazy. Then I got to thinking. The problem really got bad when Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7. Then they released a buttload of security patches for Internet Explorer 7, then they released a buttload of security patches for Windoze. Then they released a bunch of security updates for Media Player. Then Apple released Quicktime 7 point whatever. And then they released another security patch. Long story short, all those security updates and patches fucked our multimedia codecs in the ass!
So, being the Sherlock Holmes that I am, I discovered the problem was not with the browser - I had the same problem with Firefox, Internet Explorer, whatever. The problem was with the Quicktime plugin used by the browser. Specifically, the AAC audio plugin. The video plugin was loading when the player launched, but not the audio codec. So what the hell was the fix, you ask? Simple. If you've got Quicktime installed on your computer... uninstall it! This is the source of the offending codecs. Lots of people have been complaining to Apple about the new Quicktime not playing audio, or showing a big Q with a question mark where media should be. So get rid of it! Don't feel bad. Don't question it. Just do it! Once you've done that, restart your computer to make sure any remnants are flushed, then download and install Quicktime Alternative 1.81. Quicktime Alternative will install all the necessary video and audio codecs you need to watch any video content on the web - including the ScreamStream - and you won't have to deal with Quicktime bugging you to download updates or ITunes or any of that other crap. If you've been having this audio problem and just plain gave up watching the ScreamStream because of it, try this fix. If it works, let us know! If it doesn't, well then it must be your fault. |
