After months of work, Jessicka Rabid, Matthew Reel and Elske McCain’s shocking new flick, is rapidly nearing completion. ScreamTV’s Theron Neel just received some exclusive shots from the film and spoke with Elske about all things Jessicka.
So, wow, Jessicka Rabid! This is an exciting film for you, Elske. You are the star, lady! Can you give us a synopsis of the plot?
Jessicka Rabid is basically an example of the abuse and dehumanization of a woman in a dysfuntional family. She is mentally handicapped, so she is treated more as the family pet than a true member of the family.
How did Jessicka come about?
Me and Matthew Reel had been making our own shorts for a while. After realizing what a great team we were, we wanted to utilize our resources and make a feature to express ourselves artistically. Plus, we wanted to try something that nobody had really done yet. So we gathered money for the budget, rounded up our friends and fans who wanted to participate, and the rest is history.
I hear it was filmed mostly at your house. How long did it take? Principal photography basically took about a month. We were doing pick-up shots as much as six months later.
Was it inconvenient for you, living there during filming?
Yes it was. It's kind of frustrating when you are wrapped for the day and everybody gets to go home, but I was stuck there. So I was basically living on the set for a few months. I had a lot of friends helping me out, so I opened my doors to whoever was working with us. It was a unique situation. This is probably the biggest role you've had so far, right?
As far as being the title character, yes. I have played many supporting roles, and they were fun! But this was a chance to show what I was made of. Jessicka has very little dialogue, so I had to use facial expressions and movement to express myself. Since I didn't have as many lines as I am used to, I had extra time to work on my character.
It's a pretty intense flick. Was it hard to be in Jessicka's head for that long?
Yes, it was hard to keep switching back and forth from the character to myself. I still feel like it isn't over yet because I know I am going to have to dress up as Jessicka for horror conventions and stuff. I am actually looking forward to it. I really enjoyed the times we had to shoot at locations across town, and I would be dressed in full costume. I scared some kids on a few occasions, it was hilarious!
