Once in awhile I like to look back and see what made me such a Horror fanatic.
When I was 8 years old I watched "Pieces" with my Dad and some of those images have been burned into my mind ever since. The tagline was: "You don't have to go to texas for a chainsaw massacre!" The release date was September 23, 1983. |

Brain Damage Films distributes all kinds of horror films―some good, some not so good. I just finished watching Slaughtered, the new movie from writer/director Anthony Doublin, and I just have to ask, "Brain Damage, what were you thinking?" Slaughtered has a good-enough premise: A photographer for one of those "naked dead girl" websites decides to actually kill his models before photographing them. Hey, you save the modeling fees and makeup costs, right? But this good plot is ruined in its execution. I guess it’s more correct to say the plot is executed. That’s right, Slaughtered is slaughtered. (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.) |

When was the last time you had a good time at a horror movie? No, I mean a really, really good time―you know, laughing and leering and gasping. Well, I just finished watching Brain Dead, the new mutant zombie flick from horror legend Kevin S. Tenney, and I gotta tell you―it’s been a long time since I’ve had that much fun with a film.
A disparate group of people become trapped in an old fishing cabin and end up fighting off a pack of zombie "meat puppets." It might sound like an overly familiar story, but as with any tale, it’s all in the telling. And Tenney has long been a wonderful storyteller. His career is full of movies that hit most every genre, often more than one at a time. He made his mark with classic ‘80s films such as Witchboard and Night of the Demons, but he’s been flying under the radar for the last few years. Brain Dead is a fantastic return to the scene for him. |

Who would have thought that, all these years later, we’d still be talking about that long-haired preacher who ran around the desert with his followers. No, not that Jesus guy. I mean Charlie Manson. Yes, Manson and his family have cast a spell over several generations now. And though he’s not a character in Gimme Skelter, the new film from writer/director Scott Phillips, Charlie’s presence is certainly felt.
The premise of Gimme Skelter is ingenious. What if Charles Manson’s illegitimate son decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and start his own "family"? I mean, it almost writes itself! Throw in an awesome title and a heapin’ helping of ‘70s grindhouse atmosphere, and you’ve got a soon-to-be cult classic on your hands. |

It’s hard to make a movie. It’s even harder to make a good movie―one with interesting characters and an involving story. It’s harder still to achieve all of this in a film with a twenty-minute running time. But that’s what writer/director Mike Williamson has done with his horrific new short film, In the Wall.
It’s one of the hottest days of the year, and poor Jonelle is very, very pregnant. Not only that, but she’s also married to one of the biggest jerks around. Christopher doesn’t work, he doesn’t do any chores around the house, he doesn’t help Jonelle carry the groceries up the stairs, and he doesn’t want the baby. And just when you think he can’t get any worse, he does. Much, much worse. |
