For those of you who've been wondering just what the hell we've been up to around here I'll fill you in.
The on demand site started as an experiment. We wanted to see if people were interested in having the opportunity to watch movies online, or download them to watch later. It seemed like a pretty good idea, but at the time, January of 2007, there just wasn't much out there to make that happen for us.
After much searching, we found Brightcove.com. They offered a flash streaming solution and a solution for downloading high quality videos to your desktop while providing rights management protection -- I know, I know, but we have to protect our content from those nasty pirates out there.
The Brightcove interface was clunky and awkward. And even when you didn't want to become a member of screamtvondemand.com, you still had to create an account with Brightcove in order to purchase or rent movies for download. We hated that most of all.
Well, apparently everybody else hated that as well, because Brightcove decided to discontinue their rental/purchase service.
We had to find an alternative to the Brightcove service. So we decided to bite the bullet and just do it ourselves. We also decided to take the opportunity to redesign the on demand site at the same time -- including that buggy membership system that never seemed to communicate with paypal.

So when will the site be relaunched?
We're feverishly uploading movies and entering data into the new movie database, but with over 4000 movies available, that's going to take some time. Once we have all the bugs worked out with our new membership/payment processing system, and we have a decent number of movies available for streaming and download, we'll relaunch the site. (And there will be much rejoicing in the ScreamTV offices.)

Just a little update - We've worked out most of the bugs with the new download system.
Click - buy - download - watch. That's how it works. For Download to Own titles, you'll have to enter a license key before you watch the first time.
In the near future, we'll be offering pay-per-view titles that won't require you to enter a license key.
The membership system is another issue. One that has grown from a thorn to a spear in my side. We hope to have that worked out soon. In the meantime, we're using the time to customize the member players and improve the members pages.
